Yesterday evening I was strolling with my family and some friends in my neighborhood when I was stopped in my tracks by a blue moon. The moon was extremely bright and appeared enormous over the horizon. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a moon this big and bright.
The blue moon is the third full moon in a season with four full moons instead of three. The moon is actually not blue. However, under certain conditions, such as after volcanic eruptions, the moon can appear blue. The saying “once in a blue moon” refers tot he fact that blue moons are rare, only occurring once every 2-3 years. The next blue moon is set for July 2005.
