Early this morning I walked my youngest daughter to her bus stop a couple of blocks away. When I stepped outside, I was immediately taken aback by how dark it was compared to last week. I quickly remembered that we adjusted our clocks forward for Daylight Saving Time yesterday. It got me to wonder if this practice made any sense these days.
Originally conceived during World War I as a way to save energy, many people now question the benefits of springing forward. Indeed, many opponents of Daylight Saving Time believe that changing our clocks results in increased risk of heart attacks and car accidents.
Who knows if Daylight Saving Time is actually more beneficial than harmful? All I know is that just when it looked like spring was right around the corner, my morning walk with my daughter is dark again, as it was in December!
