Surprise Wedding on Alaska Flight 461 at 35,000 Feet

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something surprises you. Last night, on Alaska flight #461 coming back to Seattle from Los Angeles, the flight attendants announced that there would be a special celebration on board. Immediately, I was thinking someone was going to propose or something. But it was one level better. A […]

Epic Views and Day on Mt. St. Helen's Climb June 2015

Few words can adequately describe my ascent of Mt. St. Helen’s this weekend. Grandeur? The missing north end of the mountain and growing dome in the crater convey the powerful destruction and renewal of nature. Gratefulness? The heart-pumping hours of effort it took to scale this mountain makes me grateful that I still have a […]

Sub-$2 Gas in the Seattle Area

How low can you get? Gas prices that is. As everyone knows, gas prices have been falling precipitously for the past several months. I was surprised when I found this Arco station in Renton WA selling gas at $1.79 a gallon the other day! Not too long ago, I remember pumping gas at $4.25 a […]

Perfect Thanksgiving: Family & Friends, Great Food, and a Seahawks Domination!

It was quite a Thanksgiving Day this year. We went to a neighbor’s house for a Thanksgiving feast that did not disappoint in many ways–great company, great food, and great outcomes. Spending Thanksgiving with 20 family members and friends was just about right. Just enough people to get that homey feeling of a large family gathering but […]

Christmas Shopping in September!!??

I was shopping for groceries at the local supermarket the other day and was surprised, but not shocked, that Christmas lights and ornaments were already on full display. I remember seeing Christmas products for sale as early as October but I don’t recall ever seeing them for sale in September. In the Seattle area, we’re just […]

Mother's Day Dim Sum at Harbor City, Seattle ID District

On Mother’s Day, I took the family to Harbor City Restaurant in Seattle’s ID District. Knowing that it would be crowded, we arrived early around 9:40am to get a table. We were a little surprised that the wait was already 20 minutes when we arrived and even more surprised when the wait turned into […]

Seahawks Halloween Pumpkin

In honor of the franchise record 7-1 season the Seahawks are having, my daughter decided to dress up as a Seahawks player this Halloween. Along with that theme, we carved the Seahawks logo on her pumpkin. It got a lot of compliments from Trick or Treaters.

Super Menu for Super Bowl Potluck

We hosted an excellent, delicious Super Bowl potluck at our house yesterday. Five other families came over to indulge in football, food and friendship. Watching the Super Bowl with friends and family is one of the quintessential American traditions. In the end, the food turned out to be more exciting than the game in my […]

First Clams of the Year at Wolfe Property State Park

During the first week of the new year, I took my daughters for an overnight trip to the Kitsap Peninsula just to get away for a couple of days. Every so often, it’s nice for them to spend some time together without their brother. We had some good weather and favorable tides during our trip […]
