Bearded Polish chicken at Evergreen State Fair

One of my favorite things to do at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe WA every year is to check out the displays of farm animals. This year, my daughter and I were astounded by the variety of chickens at the fair. Some of the more unusual chickens were the bearded Polish and frizzle chickens.

The head of the beard Polish chicken is completely covered by a puff of feathers. No eyes are visible so I am not sure how the chicken sees. The frizzle chicken has really frizzy feather as if the chicken got a special cut and blow dry at the local salon. The frizzle’s feathers are curled rather than flat.

These strange looking chickens were the highlight of our day at the Evergreen State Fair.
